The Minister of Public Works, Honourable Lebohang Monaheng has appointed a new Board of Directors for the Roads Directorate (RD) for a period of three years, effective November 2021 to October 2024.
Addressing the Board’s inaugural meeting, held at the Ministry of Public Works Headquarters’ on Friday, 10 December 2021, Honourable Monaheng stated that it is through commitment, unity, tolerance, selflessness that the Board can achieve its key mandate of steering the Roads Directorate’s strategic direction.
He highlighted the poor state of the road network as one of the many challenges facing the Board, stressing that it is their duty to provide advice to the Minister.
The Honourable Minister indicated that the Board commences work at an appropriate time of preparation of the budget for the next financial year, which needs their approval before it is tabled in Parliament. He urged the members to deal with this task diligently for the benefit of the Lesotho ‘s economy.
Honourable Minister also thanked the new Board members for accepting the call to be part of the Board and wished them well in their new assignment.
The new Board members are as follows:
- Ms. Tšepang Koele, the Chairperson and Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Public Works;
- Mr. Nkekeletse Makara, the Road Fund Chief Executive Officer;
- Ms. Nthateng Lebona, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance;
- Dr. Neo Liphoto, the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government;
- Mr. Seboka Thamae, the Director General of the Roads Directorate;
- Four representatives of the private sector, namely: Mr. Sephepha Letsatsi,
Mr. ‘Nokoane Mokhatla, Mr. Kedumile Selomi and Mrs. ‘Maselomo Pama.
The Roads Directorate Board was appointed in terms Section 5.1 of the Roads Directorate Act 2010. Amongst others the Board is responsible for providing an oversight on the implementation of government policy on roads related issue, formulating strategies for the road network and setting priorities for road maintenance and approving road maintenance programmes.
The appointment of new members into the Roads Directorate Board follows the expiration of the previous board’s tenure in October 2020.
