REHABILITATED MASERU MALL TRAFFIC CIRCLE ENHANCES CITY CONNECTIVITY

Commuters can anticipate significantly enhanced traffic flow in and out of Maseru city via Kofi Annan Road (A7), effective today, following the opening of the rehabilitated and widened Maseru Mall traffic circle today.

While this intersection is now fully operational, its comprehensive rehabilitation, including final drainage, road marking, and signage, is slated for completion by August 2025.

Works on the traffic circle are part of the rehabilitation project of the Moshoeshoe (A6) and Kofi Annan(A7) roads. The project which was initially scheduled for completion in February 2025, has been extended to November 2025.

The scope of the works under this project also included formalization of the Seputana cross junction and drainage improvements at various intersections along the Kofi Annan Road and on the A2 road at Thabong traffic circle as well as Lekhaloaneng and Ha Motšoeneng intersections.

The remaining works include rehabilitation of service roads at Ha Tsolo, road marking and installation of road signs.

Unik Botswana Construction Engineering (Pty) Ltd is implementing the M283,521,859.05 project, which was designed and is being supervised by Zutari Lesotho (Pty) Ltd.

The 20-kilometre Kofi Annan Road, originally built in the late 1990s by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority, serves as a crucial bypass for Maseru city, linking Kingsway Road (from Maseru Bridge) to the A2 road at Masianokeng, and providing access to the Thetsane and Tikoe industrial areas and numerous villages.

Last rehabilitated in 2007, the 4-kilometre Moshoeshoe Road similarly bypasses the city, serving the Maseru industrial area. The rehabilitation of both roads is a strategic effort by the Roads Directorate to significantly improve trade facilitation, reduce travel times, and enhance road safety.
